Argiope aurantia Making Stabilimentum (No Edit)
This video of the Black and Yellow Garden Spider/Writing Spider/Banana Spider is making the stabilimentum after discarding the food she was eating the entire night. If you come outside early enough, you may find a bunch of these spiders doing this or even making their webs. They tend to wait until the sun comes up (or close to it at least) before they put these on their webs. This video was not edited, and even though the camera was on a tripod, the spider was bobbing up and down a lot while making it.
This video was filmed in August at Five Rivers Environmental Education Center grounds in Delmar, NY.
Thank you for watching!

Finding Argiope Spiders Can Be HARD!
Переглядів 1,1 тис.3 роки тому
Of course, it is easiest to find them at the crack of dawn in the morning, but when working a full-time job, we don't always have that option. If you found them on the weekends early in the morning, it would make finding them again during the day easier. Finding them when it is cloudy is easy too. This location was in Powderhouse Hill in South Berwick, Maine. Thank you for watching as always!

I rarely see these Black and Yellow Garden Spiders (Argiope aurantia) have this much yellow on them! Apparently, they are more common in the southern states, but this was in Maine! Anyway, enjoy! Thanks for watching as always! ~J
Be Careful of Wasps This Time of Year!!
Переглядів 5233 роки тому
Remember we have to share this planet with the insects, and currently, the wasps are in a panic trying to obtain sugar for the future queens of next year's hive. You will find them buzzing around you more frequently. Although it is tempting to swat them away, try not to. Be perfectly calm and still, and they most likely won't sting you unless you are sitting on top of a nest. You will know quic...

These Tetragnatha versicolor spiders can actually walk on water easier than it can walk on land. In this video, I'm showing you how they walk/swim on water. It's no wonder these are always found building horizontal webs right over water. This was recorded at 6 Mile Waterworks/ Rensselear Lake in the Albany Pine Bush Preserve. Thanks for watching!
Is My Argiope Spider Pregnant?

An informative short video on how to determine if an Argiope aurantia is pregnant. Another thing to notice is the very long zig zag. They tend to make them longer when they aren't as hungry.

Filmed with my phone. I used my hand to establish the focus on the web and not the background, since it is not my other camera where I can manually focus it. It's a nice little trick!

Yes, the title of my last video was click bait... I love these things, and they don't scare me at all. They are solitary wasps and are generally quite docile!
KILLER WASP! What would you do here?
Переглядів 4633 роки тому
This is a cicada killer wasp (Sphecius speciosus) carrying... You guessed it! A paralyzed cicada (Cicadoidea spp.)! The wasp was struggling to carry this one, so she saw me, went straight for me to walk up to the tallest point she can easily reach to take off in flight. I was trying to lift my hand to show you, but she got spooked and dropped the cicada, and now I feel bad... But thank you for ...

Truth be told, I’m watching this, and other videos like it, to help ease my fear of these bigger spiders. The fact that I’m bigger than they are has never brought me comfort, as they always look so damned intimidating and creepy. At the moment, however, fear has been replaced with amazement; as this is nature simply doing what it does.

I have a huge one of these spiders in one of my bushes. While I was trying to find where she was hiding during the day a wasp and honey bee hit the web at almost the exact same time. Found out she was hiding in the exact opposite direction of where I thought she might be and had both wasp and bee wrapped up tight in less than 2 minutes.

I responded to this two years ago, but as I watched the video again today, I decided to add some Biblical Information and some Knowledge that many people don't know. In the KJV of The Bible, there are 4 Creatures of Wisdom - Proverbs 30:26 (1) Ant (2) Conies {Badger} (3) Locust & (4) Spider. The Spider 🕷️ is Proverb 30:28 Did you know that the Spider is a Bless Creature of God? When you think of the pests in the world, like Mosquitos, Flies, Roaches, Rats and Field Mice which carry and transmit all types of diseases which harm and/or kill people, especially Mosquitos which has killed people by transferring West Nile Virus and Legionare's Disease for example. Rats are well known for carrying rabies, Flies are very nasty considering they give birth and eat the feces of all animals and when they land on your food, the containers we drink from or when they land on us, germs spead immediately! And the Roaches are Mice are the same way. But Spiders spend their entire lives killing & devouring these critters, as well as other insects and animals, and you can get bitten by ANY Spider on Earth, (those whose mandible jaws of fangs), that can actually penetrate the flesh of Humans, but catch NO DISEASE whatsoever! Yes, some Spider's venom is potent enough to kill or do damage to our bodies, but we don't to worry about diseases coming from Spider bites. Spiders are our friends, eating termites which damage the wooden frames of houses too! There ars many ways that we benefit from Spiders! And think about this for a moment? Spiders which spin webs hang upside down facing South. We're taught that Heaven is above us; that our loved ones who've passed away are always looking down on us, right? Spiders face South because Hell is below us and no one wants to go where the serpent is! Some Spiders are capable of eating snakes, (the Biblical Symbol of Satan); Beelzebub, Lord of The Flies which start out as Maggots; Roaches, Mice, Termites and many ground dwelling species which are often caught on the web lines of Spiders. And the flying and jumping critters can be captured by the Orb Weavers which patiently wait for food to arrive. Knowledge. Patience. Preparedness.✌️

Sweet video of the Giant Orb Weaver doing its thing just being a Spider 🕷️ in a 🕸️ Web! It was beautiful when she was fighting with the Butterfly! The colors of both were a perfect blend in a spinning vortex of a black, yellow and white blur where if it weren't for the wings, you couldn't tell them apart as they were spinning so fast! Beautiful Destruction between life and death!!

    • @bugloverspiderlover8490
      @bugloverspiderlover8490 11 місяців тому

That’s why they do it,so the female can’t eat him! Her fangs are soft after a molt, and the male can be sure he won’t get eaten,as well as be the first male to mate with her,to father more of her offspring as females mate with several males in their lifetime.
